Prosperity through Obedience
Embracing God's Favor and Well-Being
Journey to Abundant Living - Part II: Prosperity through Obedience - Embracing God's Favor and Well-Being
Welcome to Part II of our study of the book of Deuteronomy focusing on the Old Testament text of Deuteronomy 6:18-19, in our series titled "Journey to Abundant Living"
Today our focus is on the second part of verse 18: "...so that it may go well with you..."
Here is the entire passage:
18 Do what is right and good in the Lord’s sight, so that it may go well with you and you may go in and take over the good land the Lord promised on oath to your ancestors, 19 thrusting out all your enemies before you, as the Lord said.
This second of three parts of verse 18 of the book of Deuteronomy encourages us to align our lives with divine principles for a flourishing journey. The passage not only underscores the importance of obedience but also promises prosperity as a result. Let's delve into the following key aspects:
Connection Between Obedience and Blessings (Psalm 128:1, Proverbs 3:1-2):
In Psalm 128:1 ("Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in his ways!") we see a direct link between fearing the Lord (reverence and obedience) and blessings. Obedience is intricately connected to the experience of divine favor.
While Proverbs 3:1-2 ("My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you.") reinforces the idea that adherence to God's commands leads to a life filled with peace and prosperity.
Exploring the Concept of God's Favor and Well-Being (Jeremiah 29:11):
In Jeremiah 29:11 ("For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope." God's heart for His people is revealed, assuring them of His plans for their well-being and a hopeful future. Embracing obedience aligns us with these divine plans for prosperity.
Encouraging a life of gratitude and trust in God's plans (Philippians 4:6-7)
Philippians 4:6-7 ("Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.") encourages us that as we walk in obedience, we do so cultivating a life of gratitude and trust in God's plans. Philippians emphasizes the peace that comes from surrendering our concerns to God.
Practical Steps for Daily Victorious Living
In light of these insights, consider the following practical steps:
Obey God's Commands: Actively seek to align your actions with God's commands. In doing so, you open the door to His blessings and favor.
Trust in God's Plans: Embrace a mindset of trust, acknowledging that God's plans for you are filled with well-being and hope. Surrender anxieties through prayer and thanksgiving.
Express Gratitude: Cultivate a lifestyle of gratitude. Regularly acknowledge and appreciate God's goodness, knowing that gratitude is a powerful expression of trust.
One Final Thought
As we reflect on the connection between obedience and prosperity, may we be inspired to walk in God's ways, trusting in His plans for our well-being.
The journey of prosperity through obedience is not just about material blessings; it encompasses the peace, hope, and favor that God graciously bestows on those who walk in obedience.
Stay tuned for the next part of our study, where we will continue to unravel the treasures within Deuteronomy 6:18. May your path be filled with God's favor, well-being, and the richness of His blessings.
